A Mercy Relief(MR) team is already in China to coordinate the procuement, delivery and distribution of relief supplies including food, medicines and winter wear to the quake affected areas in Qinghai.  This is in response to the appeal for assistance made to MR directly from the Qinghai provincial authorities.

A 7.1 Richter earthquake rocked the remote region on 14 April 2010, causing 99% of structures to collapse, leaving more than 800 dead and over 10,000 injured.

The surviors are now mostly homeless and exposed to the freezing and hostile winter winds with temperatures hitting minus 2 degrees Celsius.  The lives of children and the elderly are most vulnerable to these severe conditions.
